In the Fall of 2014, Greg thought it would be a good idea to become a beekeeper. Around that same time, Sherry decided that starting a small flock of laying hens would be a great idea. With this in mind, we started doing research on both subjects and talked to some of the kind folks at the Homestead Heritage (Brazos de Dios) near Waco, Texas, during their annual Heritage Festival over Thanksgiving weekend. In the spring of 2015, The Oermann Family Farm started with 2 bee hives and 14 chicks.
Sherry joked about chickens being a "gateway" livestock, and they took the big leap into registered Nubian dairy goats in August 2017. Their herd started with one buck, 3 does, 1 doeling, and 1 sterile doe. Over the years, their knowledge of agriculture has grown, along with the number of hives and goats. They just added 6 Angora (Mohair producing) goats to their farm. Sherry is a Bell County (Texas) Master Gardener, and Greg is a Texas Master Beekeeper and Certified Dairy Goat Quality Producer (Langston University). They continue to learn the science and art of agriculture and love sharing this knowledge with friends and guests.
